Window regulator failure is one of the most common VW faults — the plastic clips or the cable/scissor mechanism break and the glass drops or jams.
Symptoms:
- The window falls into the door or won't go up.
- A crunch or click as the motor spins but the glass doesn't move (broken clips/cable).
The fix:
- Replace the regulator (the mechanism); the motor is usually fine and reused. A clip repair kit fixes broken tabs; a snapped cable means a new regulator.
- The door card comes off — mind the vapour barrier and connectors.
- After the swap, re-initialise the one-touch window (hold up/down at the stops for a few seconds).
