Far less than the Mk6. The Mk7 (EA888 Gen 3, 2015 on) reworked the design and I see far fewer of them.
The tensioner fault that made the EA888's name belongs to the Gen 1 and early Gen 2 engines: the 2010 to 2014 Mk6 GTI, engine codes CCTA and CBFA. On those the tensioner bleeds down and lets the chain go slack, usually on a hot restart or when you switch off, and you hear a rattle for a second or two at start-up.
Why it matters on any of them: if the chain jumps a tooth the engine loses timing, and on an interference engine that means bent valves.
So on a Mk7 I do not expect it, but I still put my ear to a high-mileage one before I sign it off. If you do hear a start-up rattle on any EA888, treat it as the tensioner until it is proven otherwise. The cure is the revised tensioner, and the full chain kit if the chain, guides or sprockets show wear.
