Swapping coil packs and plugs together is the standard fix for a misfire and a good service item on any turbo GTI.
Steps:
- Engine cover off. Unclip each coil connector (lift the wire lock, press the tab) and pull the coil straight up.
- Swap the plugs to the correct gap first (Spark Plug Change Diy).
- Fit the new coils — press them fully home until they seat on the plug, reconnect.
- If chasing a single misfire, note which cylinder on VCDS and confirm it clears.
Gotchas: fit the revised coils where applicable; don't reuse a coil that dropped a misfire; coils and plugs are a matched job.
