From the Mk6 GTI onward the rear brakes use an electronic parking brake (EPB) — the rear caliper pistons are wound out by little electric motors, not a cable. This changes rear-pad and rear-disc jobs completely: you cannot just push the piston back. Retract it electronically first, or you'll damage the motor and fight the piston forever.
