The GTI has a rich line of hotter special editions — worth knowing when buying, as they command premiums and add real hardware.
By generation:
- Mk4: the 337 and 20th Anniversary (20AE) — lowered, Recaros, 180 hp 1.8T with the 6-speed; the R32 (VR6, AWD) sat above.
- Mk5: Edition 30 (~230 hp) and Pirelli — sharper, more power.
- Mk6: Edition 35 (~235 hp) marked 35 years.
- Mk7: the Clubsport (~265 hp), the track Clubsport S (~310 hp, two seats, a Nürburgring record), and the TCR (~290 hp).
- Mk8: the Clubsport (~300 hp) and its derivatives.
Why they matter: more power, better brakes/suspension, Recaros, and collectibility — the Clubsport S and TCR especially.
