The Mk8 GTI (2022–present) is the newest — the EA888 evo4 engine is strong, so the concerns are more about electronics than mechanicals.
Mk8 checks:
- Infotainment / software — early Mk8s were plagued by buggy infotainment, haptic controls and glitches; check it's on the latest software and that the screen/haptics behave.
- Interior ergonomics — the touch/haptic climate and wheel controls are divisive; try them before you buy.
- Mechanically, treat it as a modern EA888: water pump as a future item, DSG service on the DQ381.
- Confirm any tune and that the warranty status suits you.
