A rough, lumpy, hunting or stalling idle is one of the most common GTI complaints, and it's got a well-worn list of causes. Idle exposes small faults that hide at speed — a tiny vacuum leak or a weak cylinder is obvious at idle and invisible on the motorway. I work it methodically with the fuel trims.
