A rough, lumpy, hunting or stalling idle is one of the most common GTI complaints and has a well-worn list of causes. Idle exposes small faults that hide at speed — a tiny vacuum leak or a weak cylinder is obvious at idle and invisible on the motorway. Work it methodically with the fuel trims.
