DSG or manual is the eternal GTI question — both are good; it comes down to how you drive.
DSG (dual-clutch auto):
- Faster shifts, better outright acceleration, great in traffic, and it holds more torque stock (better for a tuned car). Downsides: the service cost and mechatronic risk, and it's less involving.
Manual:
- More engagement and control, cheaper to maintain, and the clutch/DMF is the main wear item. Slower on paper, more fun for many.
Which to buy:
- Track / tuned / traffic: DSG, and budget the fluid services and a tune.
- Involvement / simplicity / lower running cost: manual.
- Either way, buy on service history — a serviced DSG or a healthy-clutch manual.
