The EA888 "evo" (Gen 3B) — in the Mk7.5 and Mk8 GTI — is the most refined version of VW's 2.0 turbo four, and its headline change fixes the family's oldest sin: it adds port injection alongside direct injection, which largely cures the intake-valve carbon build-up that plagued the direct-only engines.
