Using the correct engine oil specification in a GTI isn't fussiness — VW's engines (the EA888 especially) are sensitive to oil spec, and the wrong oil contributes to chain, consumption and VVT problems. Go by the VW spec number, not just the viscosity. See GTI Fluids Capacities for capacities
