The dogbone (pendulum) mount — the lower rear engine/gearbox mount — wears and lets the drivetrain rock, causing clunk on shifts and wheel-hop; its insert is also a cheap, popular upgrade.
Symptoms of a worn mount: a clunk on gear changes and on/off throttle, and a rubbery, vague drivetrain feel.
The job:
- The dogbone links the gearbox to the subframe. Support the engine, unbolt the dogbone mount (a couple of large bolts), and either replace the whole mount or fit a polyurethane insert into the stock mount.
- Torque the bolts to spec.
The upgrade: a poly insert sharpens shifts and cuts wheel-hop for little money — a firmer, slightly buzzier feel, and a favourite first mod. The mildest inserts are the street sweet spot.
