At the top of the GTI tuning tree, the stock engine internals become the limit — pushed far enough, pistons and rods are what fail. A "built" engine (forged pistons, upgraded rods, sometimes bearings/head work) is the foundation for a big-turbo, big-power build. It's a serious, expensive step reserved for genuinely high targets.
