Fitting an uprated intercooler is one of the more satisfying GTI DIYs — a clear before/after in heat-soak behaviour — and on modern cars a direct-fit (drop-in) intercooler makes it a bolt-in afternoon. A front-mount (FMIC) kit on older cars is more involved. See Tuning Mod Order Roadmap
