Some GTIs carry a secondary air injection (SAI) system — an electric pump that blows fresh air into the exhaust for the first seconds after a cold start to light off the catalyst faster for emissions. When it fails you get a check-engine light with P0410/P0411/P0491/P0492 and a possible emissions failure, but no drivability problem otherwise
