The Mk8 GTI (2022–present) is the current car — the EA888 evo4 and a heavily digital, tech-led interior that split opinion.
Engine: the 2.0 TSI evo4 — strong and efficient, mechanically the most sorted EA888 yet.
What defines it: the move to touch/haptic controls and a big screen — divisive, and early cars had buggy software (Buying Mk8 GTI). The chassis stays excellent; the Mk8.5 facelift addresses some ergonomics.
Owning one: software health and infotainment behaviour matter as much as the mechanicals; standard modern-EA888 maintenance otherwise.
